By Dr. Michael Tantillo
This patient is in her mid twenties from Cape Cod, MA; she came to my office to discuss breast augmentation Boston. She was interested in full breasts to balance her figure; however, she did not want excessive roundness in the upper portion of her breasts. As with all of my patients, we spent a great deal of time discussing her anatomy, soft tissue characteristics, and ultimately her “fill volume” which is volume (implant size) that I estimated necessary to fill her breast tissue. She decided to use an implant slightly larger than her fill volume for more fullness. She also decided to use saline implants placed under the muscle and an inframammary (under the breast) incision.
Her recovery from her breast augmentation was rapid and she resumed her routine activities shortly after surgery. I do not use drains or tight chest wraps after breast augmentation surgery and patients take ibuprofen for pain control after surgery. Even when the implants are placed under the chest muscle, recovery from surgery is quick. Notice the correctly placed inframammary incision is not visible when patients are standing.
Understanding how each patient’s will anatomy responds to various implant volumes and taking time to listen to patient’s aesthetic goals are keys to successful breast augmentation.
