A Clareo tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure gaining popularity among people particularly after pregnancy or weight loss. At Clareo Plastic Surgery we take a cutting edge (pun intended!) and comprehensive approach to torso aesthetics. As such, we very often we offer tummy tuck in conjunction with liposuction, high-definition liposuction, fat transfer, and/or muscle augmentation. Our goal is a rejuvenation of the torso that leaves patients feeling more confident about their body than they ever have, or ever have in a long time.
Tummy tuck flattens profile of the abdomen, removes excess skin (and stretch marks) and fat from the lower abdomen, improves the appearance of the umbilicus (belly button) and restores abdominal muscle strength and tone. The abdominal muscles often become separated during pregnancy, correcting this separation, called diastasis recti, tones and strengthens the abdominal core.
Liposuction removes excess fat of the upper abdomen as well as the flanks and upper back. By treating the upper abdomen with liposuction, a Clareo abdominoplasty does not just pull down the skin of the upper abdomen, it removes fat from that area, making the front of the torso more svelte. Liposuction of the flanks and back gives curve to the torso highlighting the waist.
High-def liposuction and fat transfer takes torso rejuvenation to the next level. Liposuction can go beyond just taking fat away, it can be used to create shadows which highlight the abdominal muscles. The fat removed does not need to be thrown away; it can be used to enhance other areas. Fat is most commonly transferred to the buttocks, hip dips, and breasts; however, it can also be transferred into muscle – such as the abs!. Although much of the fat transferred to muscle goes away, the fat that remains is transformed into muscle!
At Clareo Plastic Surgery we most commonly perform tummy tucks and torso rejuvenation for patients who are post-partum or have lost a significant amount of weight. We prefer that our surgery patients have a stable weight, which is reasonably close to their ideal body weight. We suggest that patients not plan to become pregnant after a tummy tuck; although, we have patients who have done so. We insist that patients stop nicotine at least thirty days before a tummy tuck. Clareo also offers a Mommy Makeover, a personalized procedure aimed at addressing body changes commonly linked to pregnancy and breastfeeding, including excess fat, sagging breasts, and loose skin around the abdomen. A Mommy Makeover is whatever you want it to be, and our Clareo Plastic Surgeons will discuss the various procedures and which ones would most benefit you.
What to Expect Before, During, and After a Tummy Tuck
At Clareo Plastic Surgery, the tummy tuck process begins with a thorough consultation where Dr. Michael Tantillo or Dr. Christopher Lee will assess your goals, medical history, and overall health. During this meeting, the team will also discuss combining the procedure with liposuction or other treatments for a more personalized outcome.
The surgery itself is typically performed under general anesthesia. The incision used for a tummy tuck is very low in the abdomen as well as around the umbilicus (in most cases). Our goal and expectation is that you will feel confident wearing a two-piece bathing suit after you have healed from your surgery. The surgery is done on an outpatient basis; you will be able to return home the day of your surgery. You will need assistance around your home for several days after your surgery; however, you will be up and walking the evening of surgery. You will wear a compression garment for six weeks after surgery. We also highly recommend lymphatic massage and hyperbaric oxygen to speed recovery. At Clareo Plastic Surgery we do not use drains in our tummy tucks. Rather, we place several internal sutures which obviates the need for drains as well as reducing the tension on the incision thereby improving the quality of the scar.
Recovery and Aftercare
Recovery after a tummy tuck takes several weeks. The first week brings discomfort, swelling, and bruising, which prescribed medications can help manage. Rest is key during this time, but light walking helps promote circulation and reduce blood clot risks.
By the second and third weeks, most patients can return to light activities but should avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for six weeks. Swelling and bruising will gradually decrease, and follow-up appointments will monitor the healing progress.
Following your surgeon’s aftercare instructions is crucial for the best results. This includes wearing the compression garment as directed, avoiding activities that strain the abdomen, and attending follow-up visits. Much of the swelling will be gone by six weeks; however, the results will improve for a year or more.

How a Tummy Tuck Improves Body Shape and Confidence
One of the biggest benefits of a tummy tuck is the improvement in body shape and self-confidence. By removing excess skin and fat and tightening underlying muscles, the surgery creates a flatter, firmer abdomen that enhances body proportions. This not only helps with how the abdomen looks but also boosts overall body confidence.
Many patients report feeling more comfortable in their own skin after surgery, especially when wearing clothing or swimwear. The procedure can make a big difference in how patients feel about their bodies and can improve their quality of life by restoring a younger, toned appearance.
For those considering this surgery, Clareo Plastic Surgery offers a customizable approach to meet individual needs and goals. Whether combined with liposuction or other body contouring procedures like breast augmentation, a tummy tuck can be part of a complete treatment plan that helps patients achieve a refreshed and confident appearance. With guidance from Dr. Michael Tantillo and Dr. Christopher Lee, patients can trust that their surgery will enhance both their body and self-esteem.
A tummy tuck is more than just a cosmetic procedure. It’s an opportunity for people to reclaim their body after pregnancy or weight loss, improving both physical appearance and confidence. Whether done alone or with other treatments, the tummy tuck provides lasting results that help patients feel their best.
