This mother of three children came to my office to discuss cosmetic surgery options. She was interested in improving her torso with minimal recovery time. She had significant stretch marks on her abdomen from her pregnancies and was a good candidate for abdominoplasty. Knowing that her skin would not tighten as much as would have been optimal this patient chose liposuction rather than a tummy tuck. Although there is some loose skin after the liposuction this patient had dramatic improvement with liposuction and did not wish to have her skin tightened with a long scar. Even for patients who may not be “ideal liposuction candidates” because of stretch marks and inelastic skin liposuction alone may be the best option for that particular patient. Abdominoplasty is a more powerful operation but also requires more scars and recovery time.
